Externally the 623-feet-long vessel sports a decidedly yacht-like look, with a terraced aft and sleek design. Our visit consisted of only a few hours touring the ship, just enough time to get a feel for its design, layout and primary amenities. But it was not possible to test other important aspects of luxury cruising, such as the quality of service and the dining experiences. On March 17, 2022, Ritz-Carlton signed the order with the French shipbuilding company Chantiers de l'Atlantique (shipyard in Sant-Nazaire France) for two LNG-powered superyachts - Ilma (2024) and Luminara (2025). Unlike the Spain-built Evrima, the France-built sisterships Ilma and Luminara are larger as both gross-tonnage/volume (46750 GT-tons, compared to Evrima's GT-tons), cabins (224 vs Evrima's 149), and max passenger capacity (456 vs Evrima's 298). I was off to The Evrima Room, the fourth-deck main dining room serving three meals a day.

Way back in 2017, executives at The Ritz-Carlton announced the development of a line of brand-new yachts that would supposedly change the face of luxury cruising — at least for Marriott loyalists and anyone that prefers a small-ship experience. The launch of the line was delayed for three years due to a variety of circumstances that included slowdowns at the shipyard, the pandemic and moving its first yacht to a new shipyard for completion. So it was a thrilling moment when its first ship, Evrima, welcomed guests in Barcelona on Saturday.
Evrima Rooms are Refined Spacious Havens

The first ship (Evrima) was initially scheduled for delivery in November 2019. On May 30, 2019, Ritz-Carlton announced the start of the construction of its second ship. In late-September 2018, ABB contracted Raytheon Anschutz (Singapore-based manufacturer) to provide the ship's Integrated Navigation System "Synapsis NX" (bridge and navigation equipment).

Ilma is significantly larger than the fleet's first vessel, Evrima, which carries 456 passengers against Ilma's 298 and will be 46,750 gross tons as opposed to the new ship's 24,000 gross tons. "The size is good and there are enough places to go. Public spaces are great and a real strength of the ship. Well decorated, functional, etc.," writes user arlingtonva. "On board vibe is also very different from other ships. No cruise director, no announcements at all. Activities and entertainment are limited. Fine with us, but take note if that is your thing."
The keel-laying ceremony for the first vessel ("Yacht 1"/fka Azora) was held on January 11, 2018. The special ceremony was attended by Jose Garcia Costas (shipyard's Chairman and President), Fredrik Johannson (Tillberg Design's owner), Timothy Grisius (Marriott International's Global M&A and Real Estate Officer), Douglas Prothero (cruise company's Managing Director). Initially was planned the three vessels to be identical/sisterships, with max passenger capacity 298, crew capacity 246, volume GT-tons, LOA length 190 m (623 ft), passenger staterooms 149 (all-balconied). However, the design was later altered and with these specifications was constructed only the first boat (Evrima/by Tillberg Design Sweden). The Ritz-Carlton's cruise shipping investment is currently undisclosed.
The scheduled Caribbean program (through March 28) was scheduled to end with a 12-day Transatlantic crossing (Barbados to Lisbon). The 2023 Mediterranean season (April through November) featured 5 new/maiden ports, including Melilla (Spanish Morocco), San Sebastian de la Gomera (Canary Islands), Praia (Santiago Island, Cape Verde), Mindelo (Sao Vicente Island, Cape Verde), Catania (Sicily, Italy). The Mediterranean season was extended (building upon destinations introduced in 2022) with itineraries visiting the Greek Isles, Adriatic Coast towns, the French Riviera, Spain's Balearic Islands. Evrima’s itineraries had longer in-port stays providing more time on land, including overnights in Casablanca, Dubrovnik, Saint-Tropez, Ibiza, Monte Carlo (Monaco), Ravello (Italy's Amalfi Coast), Valletta (Malta). Ritz-Carlton cruise prices include staterooms, multiple onboard dining venues, activities and live entertainment, tips (onboard gratuities), Wi-Fi.
There was plenty of space inside my 429-square-foot Signature Suite to sprawl — a full tub and double vanity in the bathroom, a sitting area, a dining table, and a king-size bed. Described as combining the modern elegance for which Ritz-Carlton is known with the casual luxury of superyachts, the suites all come with amenities guests can expect of a Ritz-Carlton hotel, including king bed, double vanity bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and luxury linens. The main Evrima Room restaurant is on the same deck at the stern, though other dining venues are scattered across different decks, as are outdoor spaces with the sheltered Marina Terrace on Deck 3 where Evrima’s marina is housed. A member can earn 1 elite night for each night spent on a yacht plus any nights at participating Marriott hotels booked through The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection as part of a package. During the day on a sailing with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, a “Yacht Casual” dress code is enforced. That means unless you’re at the pool, shirts, shoes, and bathing suit cover-ups are required.
The Owner's Suites feature a very spacious 635-square-foot terrace with a private whirlpool. The terrace alone is more than twice the size of Evrima's Terrace-category suites (which come in at 300 square feet) and larger than all the other suite categories. If the appearance of Evrima could be defined as superlative yacht or a miniature cruise ship (or both), the essence of the vessel is faithful to its Ritz-Carlton roots. The minute we set foot on the vessel it became clear that the ship feels like a luxury hotel on the water. Ritz-Carlton's voyages 2021 were planned to visit 50+ seaports, premium yacht marinas, small port towns. Most were 7-nights in duration and specially designed to not repeat the same ports on B2Bs (back-to-back cruises).

Here, you can borrow gear — like paddleboards, windsurf boards, kayaks, sailboats and snorkel equipment — for complimentary watersports. As with similar watersports platforms on other ships, the Marina will only open when weather conditions are right and local authorities permit its usage. The complete spa oasis includes a Relaxation Lounge and outdoor relaxation areas, including a hot tub all the way forward on that deck. There also are separate "Heat Experience" facilities — aroma steam rooms and dry saunas — for male and female passengers.
